 Kapanui School Discoverers December 2014

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,
It’s hard to believe that yet another year has flown by. The little children that began school at the beginning of the year now look so much bigger and our Year Two children already seem as if they should be Year Threes. They’re ready for that next step.

The year has been a busy one with many highlights. The Discoverers’ visit to Whakarongotai Marae was an important occasion in Term One - we have such proud memories of our young children taking part in the powhiri there. Our Matariki dinner in Term Two was particularly enjoyable and recently, we were delighted to get such positive responses from the audiences at the Year One and the Year Two dance shows.

We want to express our grateful thanks for all your support throughout 2014.
We especially want to acknowledge the loyal group of parents and friends of the school who turn up day after day to run our PMP programme and all those parents and caregivers who have helped in classrooms, at swimming and Gymfun,  on trips, with resources and so much more. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

We would also like to acknowledge our colleagues who won’t be returning when we start back next year: Rosina Va’a - our PMP and kapahaka leader, Janine Moody – our very own divine Miss M, and Sarah Kenworthy- the irrepressible Dr K. It would be impossible to list all that these people have contributed during their time at Kapanui. Each one of them will be greatly missed. We wish them all the very best for their next endeavours. Arohanui, nga  hoa

Our final events for the year are listed below. Please note that although we are using buses to make the transportation of the children easier we are dependent on parent help, especially for the beach trip.

Art at the Beach, Thursday, 4th December

Christmas in Waikanae, Tuesday, 9th December
We have accepted an invitation to St Luke’s Church in Elizabeth Street for a Kiwi Kids Christmas – songs, stories and morning tea. Our children very much enjoyed the experience last year in this historic building. Parents who would like to come with us are most welcome! Year One classes will go to the first session beginning at 9:15. The Year Two classes will follow at 10:30.
Discoverers Picnic Thursday, 11th December
We hope you will join us when we head off to Waikanae Park for our annual Discoverers Picnic. We will leave school at 12:30 and return at 2:00. Children will be given a special lunch -a sausage sizzle and fruit. There is no cost for this. Please tell your child’s teacher if your child is not able to have the lunch.

We would greatly appreciate some help with the sausage sizzle preparation and distribution of the lunches at the park. Those helping with the lunch preparation will need to meet in the hall kitchen at 11:30.

On the days of the picnic and the beach trip, children will need SUNSMART clothing, drinks of water and, for those with bigger appetites, on the picnic day some extra lunch.
Should the weather be unsuitable for the picnic the children will be given their special lunch at school during the usual lunchtime.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Enjoy your time with the children. We look forward to seeing them back refreshed and ready for the school year in February.

Sue, Annie, Neil, Sarah, Sam, Rose, Wendy, Barbara, Lyn, Carolyn, Janine and Maria
