Welcome to room 16 and to Kapanui School for 2014 Week 1

Week 1 2014

Welcome to Rocking room 16 blog spot....this is where you can find out about what is happening in our class. It gives access to notices and upcoming events as well as having stories, songs and activities for your child at home.

Later in the year the children will post their own news and stories.
We welcome feedback and the children love to see who has been on the site and left comments.
Instead of "  I can't remember " response to your questions about what we've been up to you can keep well informed here and share the site with friends and family who may live a long way away!

The top bar gives you access to songs and stories and also to study ladder which allows your children to practice some new learning and extend the learning at home.

About Studyladder
Studyladder is a K-6 web based educational program designed by teachers. The program is
curriculum based and covers Mathematics, Literacy and 8 other subjects. Your child has been given
a username and password which can be used to access Studyladder at school and from home.
Using Studyladder
It is not compulsory for your child to use Studyladder at home, however regular access will help
your child to reinforce what they have learnt in school. It will also help to build their confidence
through practice.
Safe Internet Usage
Your child will NOT be able to chat with anyone via Studyladder. However, we still encourage you to
supervise your child at all times when using the Internet.
Accessing Studyladder From Home
1. Go to www.studyladder.co.nz
2. Login using your child’s school username and password
As a parent you have the option to sign up for a free home account with the same limited access that
the school has. This can be linked to your child’s school account to view their certificates and results.
Studyladder does not charge for this service. It is optional for parents to upgrade to the full access
version.

As part of our inquiry topic on important places in our community, and belonging to groups we plan to do a walk from school to the Waikanae pool, have a picnic and then a fun swim.

We will be doing this on Wednesday the 5th of February, leaving the school around 12.45pm and returning to school by 3pm.

Could the children please wear suitable shoes for walking, apply sunblock and have Sunsmart clothing. If wet, the walk will be on Friday.

You are most welcome to come and join us at the park. We would prefer no pre-schoolers please for safety reasons. There will be a permission form to return in your child's bag on MONDAY!

We are fortunate to have the opportunity to utilise the Waikanae
swimming pool during Term 1. Swimming this year for Year 1
students will take place daily for 2 weeks only. Your child will

be swimming on weeks 6 and 7 ; the dates are 10.3-  to

14.3 and 17.3- 21.3. The class will walk to the pool at 1.45pm and return by 3pm.
Could your child please bring their named togs and towel in a
separate plastic bag, and can you please assist by having your
child in clothing and footwear that is easily taken off and put
on again. We would advise bringing sunscreen to school for
protection as well.
Swimming is a compulsory part of the school P.E. programme,
and therefore we look forward to all children taking part. Our
aim in teaching aquatics at junior level is to build children’s
personal confidence in water through knowledge of safe
practices and the development of appropriate skills. Please send
along a note if your child is not swimming.
If you would like to come and help supervise the children not
swimming, help the swimmers get dressed etc, you are most

welcome. Can you let me know if you are able to  help. Many thanks. WENDY
